Cardthartic’s 600 current designs ~ printed on cards, boxed notes and magnets ~ are carried by 2,500 of the finest card and gift shops throughout the US and Canada. These Retail Partners are serviced by our 100 independent Sales Reps, who we greatly admire for the hard work and wise counsel they offer our Retail Partners and us.
The company was founded by former Chicago public relations executive Jodee Stevens in 1992. Having sold her PR agency, Jodee created Cardthartic with the intention of raising the bar on what consumers could expect from cards. For our initial designs she pulled from touching condolence messages that friends & family sent her when her father died.
Today, it’s a fun fact that more and more Cardthartic card messages originate with our “Cardies,” those caring card senders who connect with Cardthartic cards. Cardies will write us just to share their feelings, and will do so in such an eloquent way that we ask to publish their sentiments on cards. Very cool.
Since our very first card, we’ve proudly printed in the USA, using soy ink on recycled paper.

Our Sales and Fulfillment Center is smack dab in the middle of the country, in Champaign, IL (2.5 hours south of Chicago) It’s where caring people work very hard (and are really nice.(:-) Their location is ideal for shipping to customers throughout the US, and also enables the company to capitalize on the terrific Midwestern work ethic.
- Cardthartic’s Creative Team feels fortunate to be able to work as all Creatives should — Jodee and Creative Coordinator Elizabeth Biswell work in Jodee’s home office in a little building overlooking the Atlantic on Miami Beach. Creative Director Valerie Sebring works from her own home office just up the coast in Boca Raton.
